Echo Fox signs former TSM head coach SSONG

As League of Legends news continues to boil over in South Korea, North America is joining the fray with Echo Fox. Today, Echo Fox announced the signing of its newest head coach, Kim “SSONG” Sang-soo. SSONG most recently coached for North American powerhouse Team SoloMid, but failed to make it to the World Championship with his new squad. Ssong’s track record in League of Legends began in 2012, where he appeared at Worlds with Najin Black Sword, but since 2014 has served as a coach for the ROX Tigers and Longzhu Gaming, in addition to Team SoloMid.

In an interview with Newsweek, SSONG was quoted as believing that Echo Fox is a team he can grow with. “I was looking for an NA team that I can belong to for a long time, so I wanted to work for a team that was interested in a lasting relationship like a family member,” Ssong toldNewsweek. “When I talked with Echo Fox, I got the strong impression that this was the team that I can devote myself to.”

Echo Fox’s owner and former NBA player, Rick Fox also weighed in on the team’s newest coaching addition.

“Bringing Coach Ssong into the Echo Fox family is the beginning of our championship success and reset for Echo Fox’sLeague of Legendsteam,” said Rick Fox to Newsweek, former NBA player and owner of Echo Fox. “His experience as a player and coach at a Worlds level and innate ability to meld various successful playstyles into a dominant roster will undoubtedly lead our team to a successful season in 2019.”

At times, Echo Fox was one of the best teams in the North American LCS, but struggled to consistently hit its peaks for the entirety of the season. The roster is filled with talent like Heo “Huni” Seong-Hoon and Joshua “Dardoch” Harnett, but mechanics can only carry a team so far. Coaching staffs make a big difference and SSONG’s general track record has been strong, taking both the ROX Tigers and Immortals to Worlds.
