According to Korean coverage site Inven, SK Telecom T1 have initiated talks with jungler Han “Peanut” Wang-ho for his return to the team. Should he accept, it would be the second time Peanut wears the SKT jersey, after he was the team’s main jungler for the 2017 season. That year, Peanut helped the League of Legends powerhouse to back-to-back LCK grand finals (one gold), first place at MSI and second place at Worlds 2017.
Inven’s report states that SKT opened discussion with Peanut’s current team, Kingzone DragonX, on Nov. 14 but are yet to reach any confirmed result. Inven also point out that Peanut was only one of three junglers the organization approached. According to LCK officials, however, the home team of one of the junglers refused the offer, while the other is yet to give a clear answer to SKT’s proposal.
Although Peanut couldn’t help SKT win Worlds, his time with the team was still better than their 2018 season, without a doubt the worst year in franchise’s history. SKT finished seventh in the 2018 Summer Split and then fourth in the Gauntlet run to completely miss out on Worlds 2018. Currently, Kang “Blank” Sun-gu serves as the main jungler, with Park “Blossom” Beom-chan acting as sub.
Although he’s been part of multiple LCK powerhouses in his career, Peanut is yet to hoist the Summoner’s Cup. In fact, it was with SKT that the jungler came the closest and pocketed the most accolades, so a reunion with captain Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok sounds like good news for both the players and their fans.
Time will tell whether SKT will make changes beyond their jungle position. It is hard to imagine the legacy team without bot lane duo Bae “Bang” Jun-sik and Lee “Wolf” Jae-wan, let alone Faker. It is evident, however, that the three-times world champions are in need of reinvigoration should be in conversation for best in the world again.
