Jabz explains why Aurora abused Smoke bug in ESL One Raleigh 2025 qualifiers

Anucha "Jabz" Jirawong from Aurora Gaming Dota 2 roster addressed their ban from ESL One Raleigh 2025 qualifiers. The offlaner claimed they weren't sure if the Smoke of Deceit bug was prohibited and compared it to famous fountain hooking from TI3. His version of the story was published on social media, translated from Thai on Reddit.

1. This bug has been used by almost everyone since long ago. They just started telling the teams to not use it during ESL One Bangkok, BLAST Slam, and PGL Wallachia S3 [qualifiers]. My team didn't qualify [for these], so we had no idea.

2. If you ask why did we use it when we knew it's a bug, we weren't sure it was. Just like when we could use Pudge + Chen fountain hook back then.

ESL admitted they didn't remind participants of ESL One Raleigh qualifiers that the Smoke of Deceit bug was banned. The TO's statement says they warned "teams in attendance of ESL One Bangkok." Aurora only played the qualifiers and didn't make it to the tournament.

This smoke bug was first banned by us at ESL One Bangkok, with BLAST also banning its use at BLAST Slam.

All teams in attendance at ESL One Bangkok were also informed of the bug, to ensure they understood the function of the bug and its severity.

ESL

Previously, ESL released the final verdict of their investigation into cases of Smoke of Deceit bug abuse at ESL One Raleigh 2025. Aurora was one of the worst offenders, using the bug roughly 50 times during the tournament. They, 9Pandas, and NAVI Junior were retroactively disqualified from the tournament. The ban didn't change the outcome of the SEA qualifier.
