Team Spirit will not travel to Australia for IEM Melbourne 2025. Complexity will play instead of them as the next best team that accepted the invite. This was revealed by ESL on the official website.
Team Spirit didn't specify the reason behind their withdrawal, nor did the TO. Before the announcement, insider OverDrive said, "many interesting things are happening, and nothing that I am allowed to talk about." Considering his close ties with Spirit, we may expect some big news about the organization in the near future.
According to ESL announcement, Spirit informed the TO on April 4. By Valve's rules, they had to invite the next best-ranked roster to the event. G2, FURIA, and four more teams declined the invite for various reasons, including a lack of visas. Complexity was the one who had the desire and papers ready for travel.
IEM Melbourne will take place in Australia from April 21 to 27, with 16 participating teams. ESL added that 15 of them have visas ready, aside from one unspecified player. Spirit wasn't the only team to withdraw, as Aurora Gaming (ex-Eternal Fire) was also replaced by SAW.
