EliGE, FalleN, cadiaN judge NA RMR format after Liquid's departure

Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski and other Complexity members complained about PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024 RMR format. At the end of the tournament, they had to face Liquid, even though they both defeated their opponents, only losing to FURIA.

Johnny "JT" Theodosiou in an interview with Dust2 stated that the format "was terrible."

Yeah, the format for this tournament was terrible to be honest. We shouldn't be playing Swiss System for five teams going through firstly. Secondly, the seeding was all messed up, and they haven't been updated for three months. In general, if there are so few teams going through, we shouldn't be using Swiss at all.

Their manager Graham "Messioso" Pitt, felt sorry for Liquid, calling their draw "a huge injustice." He echoed the rifler in his conclusions.

EliGE commented on the topic to HLTV. He said he was no expert in formats, but he wished for "something different in future." Even though Complexity won, the NA veteran highlighted that improper seeding made their path harder, as well.

The hardest part is that Liquid is seeded not where they should be, so that made the seeding tougher overall. I'm not really a fan like everyone else probably is of the Bucholz system, it's just an unnecessary complication for something that's essentially a double-elimination bracket. <...>

We both had a really tough draw with Liquid, but I'm really happy that we were able to overcome the adversity. I know that were was kinda like a more damp mood when we got the draws that we did, where it was just like, "Ah man, first we had FURIA, and now we have to play the other best team in the tournament." It definitely didn't feel good, but we were able to overcome that.

Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo questioned another aspect. He thinks his team's efforts were wasted after they qualified for a lower stage at the Major than Complexity, despite having better results. They finished 3-0 and defeated the US team.

Team Liquid's captain Casper "cadiaN" Moller made a sarcastic reply. He said, "he wasn't sure we have the five best teams going on from the Americas RMR."

No disrespect to FURIA and Complexity, but I do think if you can't beat either of those, you're not gonna be doing much damage at the Major anyways. However, of course, the format is not optimal. It doesn't make any sense that if you lose one best-of-one you're instantly near elimination. There should be better ways of finding the best teams, cause I'm not sure we have the five best teams going on from the Americas RMR.

Casper "cadiaN" Moller

FURIA, Imperial, Complexity, Legacy, and PaiN earned the Major spots. Team Liquid will miss a Valve event for the first time since 2017.

The core of the issue was with the seeding determined by Valve's ranking made in December 2023. After the rebuild, Liquid changed the region and lost too many points. As a result, they were seeded lower than expected and played against FURIA and Complexity. None of the three teams lost a match to someone else at the RMR.
