Owen "smooya" Butterfield shares rumors about CS:GO salaries again. This time he revealed on his stream how much money one of the Fnatic players gets. He didn't mention any name but disclosed an impressive salary of €40,000.
I'm in a place of my life now, where I'm aware that, unless I ran a good business, I can never see $30k a month, ever. <...> If I could make 15k playing on a decent team, or even 10k, I would do it. But no team would take a risk with me, they'd say, "You're a risk. You're a brand risk. We'll pay you ..." Like, for example. If Fnatic had a player, I won't say the name, but he's getting paid €40,000, ok? When I was in Fnatic, I was on my trial.
Currently, only Freddy "KRiMZ" Johansson seems to be worth that money as the all-time Fnatic star. Although smooya used the present time, the way he compared himself to the player, it could be someone from the lineup he played with. That roster also had ALEX and Brollan.
Smooya continued talking about salaries and implied he might never return to pro play again. According to his words, every time he joins a team, they cut the salary, and he doesn't want to put effort into these conditions. He also compared his salary to Jackinho's and revealed how much BIG paid him.
[You did at the time say you receive 50% less than any AWPer?] Exactly that. I mean I did. And it wasn't a problem for me. But I was on less than Jackinho's 50%. <...>
The first time I joined, I got €2.5k, even though we were in the top 5 of the world. And then, when the second time I joined, I signed for £5.5k, and, at the time, it was €7,000. I was on 3k the entire time I was on BIG's bench, and when they picked me back, I went back to the 5k. That was ok.
Then I had £8k ($10k) in Chaos and $3,000 in Fnatic.
Smooya revealed that moving to Fnatic was also unprofitable for him. He lost a five-figure sum because he had to drop his streaming sponsor.
Before joining Fnatic, I had Hellcase and Shadowpay as a sponsor. They paid me $45k for three months of work. That was like $12k a month. And they paid me in one bulk. And I was six weeks into my deal. Fnatic wrote me, "Hey, do you want to join us?" I said, "Of course, but I have these obligations..." They said, "We don't give a f**k, if you want to join Fnatic, you have to drop everything, and you'll have no sponsors for your stream."
So, during my time with Fnatic, from my salary, I got $12k. I had to give back $22,000 to sign the contract with Fnatic. So I paid to join Fnatic. Do you know how mental that is? If you put it like that, It's crazy. If I'd continue streaming, I'd make like $58k. But instead, during my time with Fnatic, from salaries and prize money, I made like $30k.
Owen played in Fnatic from October 21 to March 2022. Later, in September, Smooya shared that Evil Geniuses' Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte and Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov received more than $30k on the HLTV confirmed podcast.
